FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: method comprises heating feedstock in tubular furnace, holding cracking products in reaction chamber, and separating cracking products into gas, gasoline, and cracking residue. In particular, are determined weight concentration of hydrogen sulfide in cracking gas, raw material viscosity, and current value of cracking residue viscosity, after which viscosity decrease value (VDV) is calculated from relationship: VDV= 2.25*C- 3.6, where C is hydrogen sulfide concentration, wt %. From ratio of oil feedstock to VDV, minimal design viscosity of cracking residue is found taking into account difference between design and current values of cracking residue viscosity. Process parameters are then corrected by raising temperature of raw material stream at reaction chamber outlet or by lowering its intake at this chamber inlet. Invention allows optimal selection of cracking conditions to be ensured by means of express-mode determination of optimal viscosity decrease coefficients and, correspondingly, minimal values of viscosity of cracking residues.
