FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns producing petroleum coke from sulfur- containing raw material and is aimed at reducing sulfur and ash content in coke. To achieve this, sulfur-containing cracking distillation residue is combined with tar and coked in inhibited coking chamber. Resultant coke is treated with hydrogen supplied in amount 10-100 normal cubic meters per 1 cu.m of chamber space at 490- 550 C and pressure 0.6-5 MPa for 8-24 h. EFFECT: reduced sulfur and ash content. 1 tbl
