PROCESS OF DRILLING OF INCLINED AND HORIZONTAL HOLES Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: drilling of inclined and horizontal holes, specifically, transmission of information from downhole telemetering systems to day surface and back. SUBSTANCE: process includes assembly of drilling arrangement: drilling bit, downhole motor, crooked sub, elongating tube, location device, inclinometer, lower matching unit, drill pipes, ball cock, square kelly, upper matching unit, current collector, swivel and ground surface equipment. Drill pipes, ball cock and square kelly are coated on the inside with electric insulation layer. Novelty of invention lies in installation of lower and upper contact electrodes in lower and upper parts of stem which are connected by 10.0 m cable in electric insulation sheath. Electrodes are connected to telemetering system from beneath and to ground equipment through matching units and current collector. Information signals in the form of alternating ( pulse ) current are sent through drilling fluid inside drill pipes from one contact electrode to another both from below and from above.
