FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: washing machine has water tank hung inside casing, drum mounted in water tank and equipped with pulsator for creating turbulent flows, drive for actuating drum and pulsator, upper closure mounted on casing and provided with charging opening, and door pivotally connected with its one end to upper closure and adapted for opening and closing of charging opening. Washing machine is further equipped with door blocking device adapted for blocking displacement of hook-shaped lever and preventing it from disconnection. After fixing door in closed position by hook- shaped lever, the latter is blocked by means of blocking device. Since door may be opened only after hook-shaped lever blocking is released, unexpected door opening and, consequently, occurrence of accidents due to unexpected door opening are eliminated. Employment of door blocking device in steam-type washing machine, where water is heated directly in water tank by electric heater, allows linen to be prevented from damage. EFFECT: increased efficiency and enhanced reliability in operation. 10 cl, 12 dwg
