PROTECTOR FOR DRILL PIPE WITH WELDED TOOL JOINT AND METHOD OF PROTECTOR INSTALLATION Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: oil and gas producing industry particularly, device and method of protection of drill pipe surface from wear. SUBSTANCE: protector has nondetachable body from rigid material and provided with longitudinal hole for fitting on pipe with diametrical clearance accommodating member fastening protector body to pipe surface. In this case longitudinal hole in protector body is made with minimal diametrical size which is larger than outer diameter of pipe end upset for welding tool joint part but smaller than outer diameter of welded tool joint part. Method of protector installation on drill pipe includes fitting of protector body on pipe and its subsequent fastening to pipe in required position. In so doing, protector body is fitted on pipe in course of pipe manufacture before welding to pipe end of the second tool joint part. Fastening of protector body to pipe is accomplished by filling of circular clearance between them with melt of circular clearance between them with melt and by its hardening.
