FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing polyfluorinated alcohols of the general formula: RfX where R1 means H(CF2CF2)n where n = 1-8; X means . Method is carried out by telomerization of tetrafluoroethylene with aliphatic alcohols at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of water and peroxide inorganic initiating agent. Hydrogen peroxide or aqueous solutions of persulfates Me2S2O8 (Me-K, Na, NH4).) are used as an initiating agent. Process is carried at temperature 50-95 C under pressure 8-18 kg/kg/cm2 in the mole ratio initiating agent : tetrafluoroethylene = 1 : (69.1-278.4) and aliphatic alcohol : water = 1 : (0.015-0.08), respectively. Purification of polyfluorinated alcohols is carried out with 1.0-50% solution of potassium hydroxide. Method provides reduced formation of by-side products and induced decomposition of catalyst.
