FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, namely production of rolling rolls at using electric slag process. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of placing blank with annular gap in crystallizer in the form of metallic envelope; determining wall thickness of envelope depending upon thickness of surfaced working layer and blank diameter; placing electrode in said annular gap; creating slag and melt metal bath and surfacing working layer of roll; after cooling surfaced blank removing metallic envelope by mechanical working; at surfacing process providing uniform heat removal towards crystallizer and blank. EFFECT: uniform degree of cast iron chilling, increased hardness and wear resistance of working layer, elimination of residual stresses in roll. 3 dwg, 1 tbl
