FIELD: ferrous metallurgy and special electrometallurgy; applicable in reconditioning of rolls. SUBSTANCE: method includes production of annular slag bath between surface to be faced and cooled mold containing at least two sections - lower molding section and upper current-lead section, and current-lead bottom. Supplied to current-lead section is current from one pole of power source and current from other pole is supplied to lower end of roll through current-lead bottom. Made in current-lead section of mold is vertical groove in which insulating liner is installed, and current is supplied from one pole of power source to one end of upper current-lead section on boundary with groove. Connected to the other end of upper current-lead section on boundary with groove is one output of current limiting device controlling current intensity, and its other output is connected to roll upper end, and rotation speed of slag bath is maintained within rated limits. EFFECT: stabilized electroslag process due to more intensive mixing of molten metal in slag bath, improved mechanical and physical properties of faced layer. 2 cl, 3 dwg
