FIELD: appliances for prompt search of pages in books, especially in reference publications. SUBSTANCE: appliance has visible with closed book and connected with its sheets information carriers and text identifiers of notes of single-type pages, sheets or double-page spread consisting from hierarchically ordered sets of carrier marks having each of, at least, one grapheme distinguishing of identifier of present marked sheet from identifier of previous marked sheet. Separated in each identifier are initial and last marks. Initial mark of each identifier is made on information carrier connected with book sheet on which text is begun from such mark. Last mark of each identifier is made on information carrier connected with book sheet on which text is begun from such identifier. Hierarchic position of marks in each identifier is distinguished by at least one means, and marks of same hierarchic rank of adjacent identifiers are distinguished by same means.
