FIELD: mining industry; preliminary mechanical concentration of ores; processing copper-nickel ores. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes lump-by-lump delivery of material to separation zone and roentgen radiation. Spectra of secondary roentgen radiation are registered for calculation of criterion K of lump-by-lump separation. Said criterion K is compared with threshold magnitude K0 of lump-by-lump separation. According to results of comparison of magnitudes K and K0 discharge of material from separation zone is performed separating dump waste product and concentrate of at least one grade. Magnitudes of intensity of secondary roentgen radiation is registered at four energy intervals of spectrum. First E1 includes lines VKα, Crα,β, MnKα,β, FeKα, CoKα, second E2 includes lines FeKβ, CoKβ, NiKα; third E3 includes lines NiKβ, CuKα,β, ZnKα, GaKα and fourth E4 is in energy interval 11.69-25.21 kev of scattered radiation. Kriterion K of lump-by-lump separation is determined as K = f{I1, I2, I3, I4, where I1, I2, I3, I4 are intensities of second roentgen radiation in energy intervals E1, E2, E3, E4, respectively.
