FIELD: ceramics. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrochemical treatment of aluminum and its alloy articles and, more specifically, to arch oxidation and can be used in manufacture of ornamental, heat-resistant, wearproof, and anticorrosive coatings in a variety of areas. Ceramic coating consists of two layers: functional upper layer and internal layer strongly attached to base. Functional upper layer has following characteristics: microhardness 680-2250 kg/sq.mm, roughness 0.32-1.25 mcm, porosity 10-70%, and pore diameter 0.01-10 mcm. Flat iron sole is made from aluminum or its alloy has on its surface ceramic coating formed with the aid of arch oxidation in aqueous electrolyte solution containing alkali metal phosphates and fluorides, and boron-containing compounds under pulse anode or anode-cathode conditions at pulse duration 50 to 1000 mcs. When colored ceramic coatings are desired, aqueous electrolyte solution is supplemented by different transition metal compounds. EFFECT: increased heat resistance of coatings, decreased roughness, and facilitated coloration thereof. 10 cl, 11 ex
