FIELD: gas treatment. SUBSTANCE: method of cleaning emission gases at metallurgical, chemical industry, and power enterprises comprises continuous countercurrent stepped contact of gases with water-limestone pulp in absorption apparatuses, contact in particular being carried out in swirl scrubbers in finely dispersed limestone pulp under following conditions: residence time of gas in absorption reaction zone 0.001-0.005 sec, limestone content in pulp no higher than 60 g/cu.dm, and molar ratio of SO2 and CaCO3 in gas and pulp streams taken to purification equal to 1-2.
