FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: method for producing ammonium thiosulfate includes the interaction of ammonia, sulphur dioxide and elemental sulphur in a reactor equipped with a stirrer and a heating and cooling system. Elemental sulphur is crushed and fed into the reactor with water. The particle size of elemental sulphur is less than 100 microns, while the minimum particle size of elemental sulphur is 2 microns. Stoichiometric amounts of ammonia and sulphur dioxide are fed into the reactor while maintaining the temperature of the contents of the reactor no more than 70°C. Additional ammonia is introduced and the temperature of the contents of the reactor is maintained in the range of 90-120°C. The prepared solution of ammonium thiosulfate is filtered.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce the time for obtaining ammonium thiosulfate, to increase the yield and purity of the resulting product.
