FIELD: petroleum processing and petrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: pyrolysis condensate is subjected to fractioning giving first fraction 80-83 C, second fraction 84-164 C, and still residue boiling above 165 C. The first fraction is largely benzene, about 90%. The second one is oxidized with potassium permanganate at weight ratio 1: (3.6-4.0) applying boiling for 3-4 h in aqueous solution to produce benzoic acid with yield 63- 68%. Still residue is subjected to chlorination with molecular chlorine for 1.5-2.0 h at 80-140 C in presence ferric chloride as catalyst to produce mastic with 50-77% chlorine content. Chlorination is first carried out in carbon tetrachloride at 80 C during 0.5 h, after which solvent is distilled off and chlorination is continued for further 2 h at 140 C. EFFECT: utilized high-temperature pyrolysis by-products to give commercial products. 3 cl, 3 tbl, 15 ex
