METHOD FOR PREPARING CALCIUM CARBONATE DISCRETE PARTICLES Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves preparing an aqueous suspension containing 5-30 wt.-% of calcium hydroxide. To the prepared suspension carbohydrate from group consisting of sucrose, glucose, fructose, crude sugar, syrups, resins, starches, maltose, lactose, cellobiose, cellulose and glycogen is added. Carbohydrate concentration is 0.05-3.0 wt.-%. Carbonization with gaseous CO₂ in the concentration from 1 to 100% at initial temperature 30-85 C is carried out. Calcium carbonate discrete particles with average size 0.1-3.0 mcm and specific surface 2-25 m²/g are prepared. Purity of prepared calcium carbonate is 98%. Invention is designated for chemical, paint and varnish, polygraphic, food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries and can be used in preparing dyes, pigments, paper fillers, elastifying agents for polymers.
