FIELD: measurement technology, remote measurements, development of laser information systems and systems delivering laser radiation. SUBSTANCE: laser beams of various wave lengths and/or of different diameters are transmitted through turbulent medium to determine parameters of spectrum of fluctuations of refractive index of it, distribution of intensity of these beams subjected to effects of medium is measured at equal or different distances from radiation source and statistic characteristics of intensity are evaluated. Distribution of average intensity of laser beam and/or dispersion of displacement of gravity center of laser beam are taken as statistic characteristics of distribution of intensity. Region of possible values of parameters of spectrum of fluctuations of refractive index of turbulent medium corresponding to errors in evaluation of these statistic characteristics per each laser beam is found by statistic characteristics and parameters of spectrum of fluctuations of refractive index of turbulent medium are determined by values common for all regions of possible values of parameters of all used beams. Parameters are estimated in the aggregate and at same time which makes it feasible to utilize more accurate relations for their determination which leads to more accurate and reliable results. Requirements for formation of laser beams employed in experiment are relaxed with preservation of accuracy. EFFECT: increased reliability of procedure. 2 cl, 13 dwg
