FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to wheeled vehicles to be used as additional brake to provide safety on the road. Proposed hydrodynamic retarder-brake contains hydraulic circuit including suction and drain main lines of pump whose drive shaft is mechanically coupled with automobile transmission, radiator and fan mechanically coupled with drive shaft of pump. Novelty is than retarder-brake is furnished with fluid coupling connected with suction and drain main lines of pump. Pump wheel is stationary mounted on shaft of liquid coupling, and turbine wheel is installed for movement, said wheel being mechanically coupled with epicycle by means of planet pinions mechanically intercoupled by means of carrier rigidly coupled with housing of fluid coupling. Epicycle is secured on fluid coupling shaft which is connected with automobile transmission shaft by means of higher chain drive in casing whose smaller sprocket is fixed on fluid coupling shaft, and larger movable sprocket is coupled with automobile transmission shaft through synchronizer.
