FIELD: ammunition for light weapon. SUBSTANCE: the cartridge has a case, whose one end has a section with a reduced diameter for placement of the hitting element, the case length is less than 26 mm, and the ratio of the case outside diameter in its widest part to the outside diameter of the hitting element in its widest part makes up such a value that at a shot of the cartridge in the weapon barrel the hitting element attains a muzzle velocity of not below the maximum value thus providing for a high velocity of target hitting when the hitting element hits the target. The invention also concerns the weapon barrels designed for firing with such cartridges and the weapon using such barrels. The hitting element has a preferred diameter of 5.56 mm. The cartridge case length preferably makes up a value within 17 to 25 mm, and its maximum diameter - 9 to 12 mm. The cartridge case may be manufactured of a 10.16-mm cartridge case of the Smith and Wesson firm. EFFECT: enhanced range and accuracy of fire, provided firing with hitting elements at velocities exceeding the maximum velocity of such elements. 21 cl, 10 dwg
