FIELD: powder metallurgy; manufacture of friction members for end seals of compressors, pumps and other equipment. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes manufacture of friction member for end seal made in form of metal body with circular insert made from hard alloy; method includes also making circular slot in metal body, filling it with hard-alloy mixture, molding it in hot molding unit in atmosphere of inert gas or hydrogen by means of graphite punch followed by machining. Hot molding is performed at excessive pressure of gas of 0.3-0.5 kgf/sq cm and temperature of 1250-1350 C and molding pressure of 80-100 kgs/sq cm; procedure is continued for 10-30 min. Hard-alloy mixture contains sintered hard alloy BK6 (BK3, BK8) in the amount of 60-70%, powder BK15 (BK20) in the amount of 30-40% and boron oxide in the amount of 0.5-25.
