FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: petroleum is subjected to primary distillation to isolate low- and high- boiling fractions boiling, respectively, within 120-270 C and 150-420 C temperature range. The latter is hydrogenated and resulting hydrogenate is compounded with low-boiling fraction at weight ratio between 90:10 and 40:60 to give final product, or it is subjected to rectification to isolate fraction 130-360 C and residue followed by compounding fraction 130-360 C with low-boiling fraction at weight ratio between 20:80 and 60:40. Level of sulfur in thus obtained diesel fuel is of the order of 0.035 wt % or below. EFFECT: reduced sulfur level in product. 3 cl, 4 ex
