Mumbaistatin is an inhibitor of glucose-6- phosphate translocase activity of molecular formula C28H20O12 and it relates to class of quinone compounds. This compound is prepared by culturing microorganism of species Streptomyces HIL-008003 (DSM 11641) and if necessary it is converted to pharmaceutically acceptable salts or ethers and esters. Lacton L970860 is a representative of mumbaistatin esters. Mumbaistatin and its derivatives are used for preparing pharmaceutical preparations and compositions designated for treatment of diabetes mellitus. All claimed compounds elicit the higher inhibitory activity with respect to glucose-6-phosphate translocase.
