FIELD: biological testing. SUBSTANCE: proposed method of biological testing includes measurement of intensity of slowed-down fluorescence of test organism in induction maximums after turning on of excitation light of high intensity first and of low intensity later. Ratio of measured values normalized to similar values measured in standard specimens carrying no toxic substances is utilized as index of phytotoxicity. Check and pilot specimens of test organism are irradiated in the course of 2 h with light with intensity of 60 W/sq m prior to measurement of slowed-down fluorescence. EFFECT: raised sensitivity and widened range of toxic compounds expose during biological testing of water. 3 tbl
