FIELD: rolled stock production, possibly manufacture of cold rolled strips, namely coiling such strips to coils. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of bending strip by applying to it effort of guiding roller before coiling strip onto drum of coiler; forming coil onto drum at gradually increasing diameter of coil while changing effort of guiding roller in inverse proportion to change of cross thickness difference of strip until receiving strip coil with diameter equal to half of its maximum diameter; then as coil diameter increases beginning from half of its maximum value decreasing effort of guiding roller acting upon strip due to bending roller in vertical plane to side opposite relative to direction of said effort until bending strip by value equal to 0,12•(223•δ)-0,3, where δ - cross thickness difference of strip, %. Apparatus for performing the method includes - shaped strut-levers jointly mounted by their short legs in bearing assemblies with possibility of rotation in vertical plane; guiding roller having parabolic convex generatrix and mounted by its journals in short legs of strut-levers with possibility of reciprocation motion along its axis in such a way that roller axis and axes of articulation joints are mutually normal and they are laid in the same horizontal plane. In lower ends of long legs of --shaped strut-levers threaded sleeves with opposite direction of threads are mounted with possibility of rotation in vertical plane. In said sleeves drive shaft is mounted; said shaft has in its opposite ends opposite-direction threads whose directions coincide with those of respective sleeves. Method and apparatus are designed for coiling cold rolled strips with thickness range, mainly 0.7 -2.0 mm.
