FIELD: electrical engineering; recovery of electrical conductor and/or cable wastes. SUBSTANCE: method designed for separating polymeric insulation (sheath) from metal core (and/or from other fillers) includes dipping of electrical conductor in solvent or its disposing in solvent vapors; used as solvent are higher n- alkanes or their mixtures, or other high-boiling solvents whose boiling temperature is over 150 C. Then solvent is heated to temperature high enough to cause softening of polymeric insulation, this temperature being maintained for time required to separate polymeric insulation from metal core. Solution is cooled down and dissolved sheath and/or component is separated. As an alternative, method may use lower n-alkanes or their mixtures, or other low-boiling solvents for the purpose.
