FIELD: manufacture of powder wire, mainly for out-of-furnace treatment of steel and cast iron. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of making from metallic band U-shaped groove with different height of its walls; leveling powder poured in groove and compacting it in groove by means of upper drive roll; forming closed tubular blank whose diameter exceeds that of ready wire by 25 - 30%; at forming lock joint sinking vertical folded seam inside tubular blank in closed slit gage whose width is equal to diameter of closed sheath by means of comb with annular groove while forming two rectangular cross section lengthwise grooves symmetrical relative to folded seam; at side reduction in closed gage compressing shaped corrugations and forming lock joint in the form of rib.
