FIELD: mechanical engineering; out-of-furnace processing of steel; manufacture of flux-cored electrode wire, diameter 5-18 mm. SUBSTANCE: cold rolled metal strip is formed into U-shaped chute without flanging the edges, with different height of vertical walls. Chute is filled with powder material. Then closed tubular envelope of wire is formed by overlapping longitudinal edges of envelope and additional inner corrugation is formed. To form additional inner corrugation, outer portion of envelope is pressed to side of corrugation in lapping over zone. Blank thus formed, is additionally moulded to close the sides of additional corrugation. Sides of additional corrugation clamp the section of envelope with lapping over zone to form lock joint of fold seam type. Fold seam is flush with envelope. EFFECT: simplified process of forming tubular blank and lock joint, increased powder fill factor and improved service characteristics of ready flux cored wire. 2 dwg
