FIELD: industrial inorganic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: process involves thermal activation within temperature range 548 to 705K at pressure of residual gases 5.3 Pa ≤p≤ 14.2 Pa or 800 to 1092K and p < 5.3 Pa, where p is pressure of residual gases over sample in the course of activation. Activated vanadium is saturated with hydrogen isotopes. Pressure of hydrogen isotopes in the course of interaction of hydrogen with activated vanadium is maintained no lower than value determined from relationship P = 10-2470/T+7,5 wherein P is hydrogen isotope pressure, MPa, T is temperature of vanadium when supplying gas. EFFECT: accelerated vanadium hydride synthesis, simplified technology, and extended vacuum parameter range used during activation. 2 cl, 2 dwg, 1 tbl, 2 ex
