HIGH-SPEED NUCLEAR ROCKET ENGINE Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2225948 C2

FIELD: rocket and space engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed nuclear rocket engine relates to rocket and space equipment, namely to new type of rocket engines. Said rocket engine has housing main direction nuclear target of rocket, rocket deflection nuclear targets laser device, focusing lenses, synchronizer, step motors, guide shafts and power supply source. Main direction nuclear target of rocket serves to provide motion of rocket in direction of its main axis, and rocket deflection nuclear targets, to control deflection of rocket. Nuclear target is movable tape with series of cones filled with deuterium. Laser device consists of five separate lasers, each being grating of semiconductor lasers on double heterostructure cooled by nitrogen and with current pulse pumping. EFFECT: increased specific thrusts, speed and acceleration of rocket flight, improved conditions of operation as compared with widely used solid- propellant and liquid-propellant rocket engines. 2 cl, 2 dwg
