FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed braking device has hollow housing accommodating cylindrical supports whose longitudinal axes are square to longitudinal axis of housing, and flexible member passed in sequence over all supports, one end of which, designed for connecting with object to be braked, is brought out of housing through axial hole in one of end face surfaces. Novelty is that flexible member is installed with possibility of contact with inner side surface of housing. Supports are arranged in staggered order and are spring-loaded in direction square to longitudinal axis of housing to compensate for changes in sliding friction coefficient of flexible member contacting with supports owing to change of angle of enclosing of cylindrical supports by said flexible member. Housing is provided with projections on inner surface made to guide flexible member when it approaches the supports. End of flexible member not designed for connection with object to be brake is laid in housing in form of spiral. EFFECT: improved efficiency of braking owing to optimization of braking force close to constant. 2 cl, 2 dwg
