FIELD: evaluation of physical and chemical characteristics of simulated ice. SUBSTANCE: ice specimen is conveyed without removing it from water to reservoir wherein it is forced down to complete immersion in water and in this state water level in reservoir is recorded; then reservoir is weighed together with its content and ice specimen is rapidly removed, whereupon reservoir containing remaining water is weighed again, and weight of chosen ice specimen is determined judging from results of weighing reservoir with and without this specimen; then reservoir with all its content and with remaining water is replenished with water up to level noted earlier and volume of ice sample is indicated by that of added water, and its density is calculated using weighing results and sample volume measurements. Device implementing this method has reservoir, scales, and graduated jar; reservoir is provided with water-tight removable container, forcing-down lid with thrust flanges, and water level gage.
