FIELD: engineering geology. SUBSTANCE: procedure establishing physical properties of frozen ground includes selection of specimen, its weighing, filling of vessel with known volume V1 with water, placement of ground specimen into vessel with water, determination of volume of water with specimen of undisturbed structure, determination of volume of specimen by difference in volumes of water V2 with sample and V1 without specimen, establishment of density of frozen ground. Salient feature of procedure lies in determination of volume V3 of water with thawed ground with water temperature being controlled and corrected. Volume Vi of ice contained in specimen is found then by formula where ε- is coefficient of volumetric expansion while ice turns into water. Later total moisture content, total ice content in frozen ground, weight of ice, unit weight of skeleton of frozen ground, amount of unfrozen water. Device for realization of procedure includes measuring vessel which comprises two cylinders. Internal cylinder carries seal on upper edge. External cylinder is fitted with sieve capsule to accommodate specimen and measuring tube. EFFECT: substantially reduced time for execution of laboratory work with preservation of high quality and authenticity of obtained results. 2 cl, 1 dwg, 1 tbl
