FIELD: recovery of solid radioactive wastes by combustion method. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes charging of solid radioactive wastes with exothermal material and their combustion. Used as exothermal material are fuel element and fuel assembly production wastes in the form of chips and filings of zirconium alloy produced upon cutting tubes to size of fuel element cans; manufacture of bottom grids, spacer grids, and guide channels for fuel assemblies. Radioactive materials are charged with zirconium chips and filings in small portions immediately before their loading for combustion.
