FIELD: nuclear engineering; manufacture of fuel elements for nuclear reactor fuel assemblies.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes wet treatment of fuel element surface to form film by dipping it vertically in hot solution of water-soluble polyvinyl varnish and holding it therein for certain time. Film formed in the process is coated with aqueous solution of glycerin. Partially dissolved film mixed up with glycerin aids in reliable installation of fuel elements in spacer grids with bottom plug carrying conical varnish swell forward. Film is removed together with radioactive pollutants prior to packing with live steam in hot water involving rinsing in distilled water and drying. So, this method provides for reducing process cycle and for removal of radioactive pollutants from fuel element surfaces.
EFFECT: enhanced productivity and in-storage reliability, reduced cost, improved quality of fuel assemblies.
