FIELD: metallurgy; method of production of steel sheets used as armor for protection against high-speed hitting elements. SUBSTANCE: hot rolling of sheet armor steel is performed at temperature below austenite re-crystallization temperature but above temperature of beginning of ferrite transformation. EFFECT: enhanced ballistic resistance of steel at retained life due to suppression of crystallographic texture.
