FIELD: analytic chemistry, measurement of surface tension of liquid media. SUBSTANCE: in accordance with procedure lower end of capillary positioned vertically is dipped into analyzed gasoline to establish surface tension of it and height of capillary rise of gasoline is measured. Refractive index of gasoline is measured in addition and computations are conducted in compliance with formula σ = 870(n-1)h•g•r, where σ is surface tension of gasoline at 20 C, N/m; n is refractive index of gasoline at 20 C; h is height of capillary rise of gasoline, m; g is free-fall acceleration, m/c2; r is capillary radius, m. EFFECT: simplified procedure establishing surface tension in gasolines. 1 dwg
