Device has test signal generator supplying signals to recording means input. Labels are read out of record medium Distortions of leading and trailing edges of signals are measured. Each pulse train has front and rear parts. Optimal value of first and/or second parameters related to front and rear parts is set by varying first and/or second control signal, respectively.
