FIELD: data recording on optical record medium. SUBSTANCE: method for setting optimal record parameter includes recording of series of test patterns, read-out of patters for shaping respective read-out signal parts, reception of read-out parameter value from each part of read-out signal, and selection of optimal recording parameter value depending on preset function derivative characterizing readout parameter as function of recording parameter entered in mentioned medium. Device for data recording on optical medium has radiation source depending for its operation on controlled recording variable for data recording on medium, control unit for recording series of test patterns, read-out unit for reading patterns and shaping respective read-out signals, first and second processors. Read-out unit is designed for reading abovementioned preset values out of mentioned optical recording medium and is coupled with second processor for transferring mentioned preset value.
