FIELD: transport mechanical engineering; drum-type brake units of cargo trucks, buses and the like. SUBSTANCE: proposed friction lining is made from polymer composite material in form of cylindrical ferrule of different thickness; said ferrule is formed by non-coaxial cylindrical surfaces with parallel axes of rotation and flat side surfaces which bound lining in radial direction; they are made from two engageable planes located at angle relative to each other. Novelty of invention consists in size of area of radial flat surface on thick end of lining exceeds that of non-radial surface engageable with it. Area of radial flat surface on thin end of lining is lesser than area of non-radial flat surface engageable with it and area of flat non-radial surface of thin end of lining is lesser than area of flat non-radial surface of thick end of lining. Areas of non-radial (S1) and radial (S2) engageable surfaces of thick end of lining are selected from relationship S1/S2-3.5-4.5; areas of non-radial and radial surfaces of engageable planes of thin end of lining are selected from the following relationship 2.5÷3.5.
