FIELD: analytical chemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for investigation and analysis of substances and can be used for determination of citric acid and its salts content in solution of substances of different nature. Method involves selection of sample, its oxidizing bromination followed by addition of excess of reducing agent to a sample. Value for at least one optical index of a sample is measured used for assay of citric acid or its salts. Amount of citric acid and its salts are determined by multiplication of the measured value of optical index of a sample on the calibrating coefficient of device.
