FIELD: agricultural engineering, in particular, equipment for surface tillage of soil at farm crop presowing period. SUBSTANCE: method involves mellowing, mixing and separating soil for removal of weeds from it; using tillage unit including at least one cultivating tool made in the form of horizontal low-speed rotavator; immediately after single passage of horizontal low-speed rotavator, tilling soil by means of at least one additional horizontal low-speed rotavator to depth equal to or smaller than tillage depth provided by main horizontal low-speed rotavator. According to second version, at least one ribbed drum is used for soil tillage instead of additional rotavator to provide for tillage depth equal or smaller than that provided by main rotavator. Another version involves tilling soil by means of horizontal low-speed rotavator, followed by using of at least one additional horizontal low-speed rotavator and at least one additional ribbed drum to depth equal to or smaller than that provided by main rotavator. Distance between end of rotavator and subsequent rotavator or ribbed drum is below 1 m. Disclosed in said versions are joints between rotavator frame and additional frame adapted for carrying additional rotavator or ribbed drum.
