FIELD: transport engineering; diagnosing condition of steering system. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices for measuring summary play in steering gear and it can be used in mechanical engineering at production of automobiles, tractors and other wheeled vehicles. Light device of proposed play meter consists of spotlight and screen. Spotlight is hinge-connected to telescopic axle and is installed on disk of steerable wheel by means of magnetic washer or special lug. Screen can be connected in the same way to ferromagnetic support arranged on base or to vehicle body. Moreover, screen can be made on surface of base or on wall. Device is furnished with photocells arranged on screen and terminated at signaling devices and computer display. EFFECT: possibility of measuring summary play in steering gear with due account of actual beginning of turning of steerable wheels. 17 cl, 2 dwg
