FIELD: ferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises smelting ferrosilicium, separating slag, cooling ferrosilicium melt and alloying it with magnesium. The latter is added in the form of magnesium silicide. Cooling of ferrosilicium is conducted to temperature preventing decomposition of magnesium silicide, preferably to 1300-1400оС. Ferrosilicium is additionally alloyed with calcium, rare-earth elements, and aluminum, which are added un summary amounts not exceeding 30% of the weight of iron-manganese alloy. Invention allows increasing degree of conversion of magnesium into iron-manganese alloy to 99.7% owing to reducing loss of magnesium into gas phase to 0.1-0.2%. Alloy prepared according to invention is designed for modifying cast irons.
EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency.
