FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertinent to the field of galvanotechnics, in particular, to anodic oxidation of items from copper and copper alloys. The method includes an anodic oxidation of items in the electrolytic bath containing only alkali (for example, NaOH) with the given concentration in an water solution, at adjustable temperature and the anode current density during time sufficient for formation of a solid layer mainly consisting of the cupric oxide (I) (Cu2O). Technical result is production of a coating layer having the given color, appearance and optical properties and higher adhesion to the copper base and excellent mechanical properties.
