FIELD: recovery of liquid radioactive wastes.
SUBSTANCE: monolithic silicate glass block incorporates following components, mass percent: SiO2 + ZrO2, 46 - 50; Na2O + K2O + Cs2O, 18 - 23; CaO2 + SrO + BaO, 2 - 5; Al2 O3 + oxides of rare-earth elements, 5 - 12; Fe2O3 + Cr2O3 + NiO + MnO2, 2 - 6; MoO3 + Nb2O 5 + RuO2 + RhO3 + TcO2 + UO2 + PuO2 + NpO2 + Am2O3 + Cm2 O3, 4 - 6; B2O3, 8 - 12; and Cd2O3, 0.2 - 2. Proposed process for manufacturing monolithic silicate glass block in induction furnace with crucible cooled down by liquid coolant includes pre-concentration of liquid radioactive wastes and fluxing additives followed by their fusion at 1100 - 1300 oC and at coolant temperature of 80 - 300 oC. Then fused glass is drained in flasks and block is produced by cooling glass-holding flasks in the open down to 400 - 450 oC.
EFFECT: enhanced chemical, thermal, and radiation stability of block; reduced cost of its manufacturing process.
