FIELD: short-circuit detectors responding to electric arc in power circuit under protection.
SUBSTANCE: system has closed-circuit line switch connected in series with power circuit component under protection wherein electric current should be interrupted on occurrence of short circuit. Detector responds to rate of change of electric current with time in power circuit component under protection. Controlled silicon thyristor has gate electrode electrically connected to detector output signal. This thyristor is designed to short out electric current in power circuit component being protected in case detector has found out that rate of electric current change with time in power circuit component being protected exceeds maximal permissible value causing actuation of line switch.
EFFECT: enhanced speed, reduced size and cost.
