FIELD: welding processes and equipment, namely apparatuses for feeding welding wire, possibly in systems for fusion welding at mechanized wire feed.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of guiding wire and introducing it into working groove of drive roller, matching it with working groove, straightening wire by back bending of it and feeding it in desired direction; before introducing wire into working groove, bending it by angle equal at least to 0.5 degree relative to tangent line of circle at point of wire entry to working groove between said tangent line and wire axis; pressing in wire with effort into working groove; keeping matching of wire with working groove along portion whose length is equal at least to one diameter of wire and is no more than length value of working groove; at straightening wire, bending it by angle equal at least to 0.5 degree relative to tangent line of circle at outlet point of wire out of working groove between said tangent line and wire axis. Apparatus for performing the method includes drive roller with working groove, mechanism for pressing-in and straightening wire having pressing-in members arranged at both sides of zone of matching wire with working groove. Said members serve as end stops for wire and they are mounted with possibility of motion relative to drive roller. The last serves as intermediate rotary support. Pressing-in member engaging with wire after its outlet from zone of matching with working groove of roller is arranged in plane of wire bending and it is inclined by angle equal at least to 0.5 degree relative to tangent line of circle at outlet point of wire from working groove between said tangent line and wire axis. Said member operates as stop straightening member.

EFFECT: possibility for achieving large pushing efforts necessary for feeding wire by large distances, high-quality straightening of wire.
