FIELD: industrial organic synthesis and catalysts.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacture of formic acid by oxidation of formaldehyde with oxygen and provides catalyst containing 10.0-25.0% vanadium oxide, titanium oxide (balancing amount), and, additionally, 0.5-10% of one or several alkali-earth metal oxides preferably selected from calcium, barium, and strontium oxides. Catalyst has specific surface 100 to 350 m2/g and are characterized by high mechanical strength, specific surface, and formic acid-regarding selectivity at temperature starting with 110оС (K from 0.60 to 1.1 s-1).
EFFECT: improved performance characteristics of catalyst.
