FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for isolating ethylene oxide by absorption from gaseous mixture prepared in the process of oxidation of ethylene with oxygen in the presence of silver-containing catalyst and can be used in manufacturing ethylene oxide. Invention proposes a method for stabilizing the process in isolation of ethylene oxide from gaseous mixture forming in oxidation of ethylene with oxygen in the presence of silver-containing catalyst. Method involves absorption with ethylene glycol aqueous solutions, desorption of prepared saturated sorbent at enhanced temperature and the following treatment of sorbent after desorption stage with foam suppressor, alkaline reagent and recycle of sorbent to absorption stage. The content of surface-active substances in sorbent is determined additionally after stage of ethylene oxide desorption and maintained their concentration as 0.02 wt.-%, not above. Invention provides enhancing stability of process in isolation of ethylene oxide from contact gas and reducing consumption of foam suppressor.
EFFECT: improved stabilizing method.
