FIELD: mechanical engineering; reduction of roughness of crystallizing melts.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method is used for heat treatment of metals by high-concentrated radiant energy due to control of hydrodynamic state of melt at stable laminar (close to stationary) mode of flow. Surface is subjected to alternating electromagnetic field whose intensity is above magnitude corresponding to magnetic saturation of material being treated; plane of field lines of magnetic induction is set perpendicularly relative to motion of melt.
EFFECT: reduction of height of roughness; enhanced strength characteristics.
