FIELD: water treatment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to sweetening sea water and brackish water, and to removal of harmful CO2 gas contained in emissions from combustion plants. To that end, carbon dioxide-rich effluent gas is withdrawn into process vessel, into which sea water, after mixing with ammonia (to weaken Na-Cl bond) is also pumped and spread across multiple points near the top part of the vessel in the form of fine splashes so to affect CO2-containing exhausted gas present therein. CO2 additionally weakens Na-Cl bond so contributing to formation of solid Na2CO3 and NH4Cl, which are then removed in below located settler. Desalted sea water overflows from settler and is transported to consumers. Reuse of effluent gas and removal of harmful CO2 from effluent gas before its discharge into atmosphere are likewise assured. Solid NH4Cl salt can be further reprocessed into ammonia while solid Na2CO3 is a commercial product, which may recompense the whale process. Process is largely designed for desalting water with maximum salt concentration 22%.
EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency.
